My eyes don’t open but I do register the big hand rubbing my hair back even though I'm still semi-comatose.

“That feels good.”

The hand stops immediately. “You’re awake.”

My eyes flutter. “Kingston?”

“Jay’s here, too. Livin’ room.”

“He better not be in this room.”

Kingston cocks his head and I don’t miss the small quirk in his lips.

“You’ve been asleep for almost four hours.”

My eyes widen. “No way, I-I just…”

Sensing my panic, Kingston softens his large body which is seated on the edge of the bed.

“It’s okay. You needed the sleep, but now it’s late. Come join us, eat something, and I’ll take you home.”

“I have my car here.”

“I’ll drive it back in the mornin’. Don’t worry about it.”

“Kingston,” I whisper, “why was I asleep so long?”

A deep breath releases from his chest. “Come here.”

I get tangled in the covers for a brief moment because I can’t get to him fast enough. I mean… hello, this is Kingston Shelby. The muscled softie of Burrows, Texas. When I reach him, he pulls me into his chest and in the moment, I nearly forget why I'm here.

“You’re tired. It’s okay. Don’t let it scare you, B. Don’t let it distract you.”

“I'm distracted.”

He looks down at me as I look up, smirking a little. “Trouble,” he grumbles.

“No, King, this is trouble,” I murmur as I trace his t-shirt covered chest with my nails. Before he can respond, I spin over my side and climb off the bed. I'm laughing silently to myself as I make my way to the door, because I love teasing him, when large hands wrap around my hips and lightly tug back.

“I'm a man, Blythe. You keep teasing like that, one day, you’re gonna get what you ask for.”

Oh shit. My highly neglected body tingles from head to toe and for once in my goddamn life, words leave me. My mouth opens and closes like a fish several times, but no words come out.

“Yeah,” King says, giving my hip a squeeze, “that’s what I thought.” He releases me and lightly pushes me forward. “Now, go spend time with everyone.”

“Are you coming?” I whisper breathlessly, trying to get myself together.

Kingston just hit on me. For real. He. Just. Hit. On. Me.

“Yeah, I'm your ride. Remember?”

If I'm not mistaken, I hear a bit of amusement in his voice.

“Right. Chemo brain.”

At that, he does chuckle, because we both know I never play the cancer card. Not unless I need an excuse to play on. And right now, yeah, I do. Chemo brain is easier for me to confess to than sex brain.

“Get out there, Blythe.”

I scatter. I feel a lot better now with the rest, which is a relief. It always scares me when I start to feel off.

“Hey!” Iris’s entire face brightens. “You l-look better.”

“Sleep is magic,” I say as I plop down next to Jay. Jay, being the hugger he is, wraps me in a side hug and kisses the top of my head.

“Who’s winning?” I say, gesturing to the Monopoly game spread out on the table.
